Harsh Reality is a cassette label based in Memphis, TN.

Operated by  Chris Phinney, The Harsh Reality label grew from his fanzine Malice, which he began publishing in 1982. 

I am not alone in the opinion that Harsh Reality is of great credit to American music history. Although home taping and cassette culture have now become a nostalgic fad, it is Chris' lifelong efforts of organization (and incredible taste in music) that defeats all social and technological brevity, and today gives us something quite new and permanent.

The label accomplished over three hundred tapes. Today, new things are contributed on the Harsh Reality bandcamp. At any moment you can enjoy discovering an international selection of noise, industrial, electronic and space rock.

Chris was involved in several music projects from the very outset of Harsh Reality. I am particularly fond of two of these bands: Viktimized Karcass and Skoptzies. Below are links to my YouTube playlists with meager compiling of their work. They are both mind blowing.
